Detailed information on Vintage London \'Chancery Lane\' Heritage Wooden Folding Office Chair

Offered for your consideration from Remembered Finds is this distinctive and preloved wooden folding office chair, originally sold by A.M. Coleman & Co. of Chancery Lane, London measuring 80cm height with a seat height of 43cm and an overall width of 45cm.

Located in the heart of London’s historic legal district, Coleman’s was a known supplier of \'Typewriters and Office Furniture.\' This piece carries a wonderful brass maker’s plate that includes the vintage \'Holborn\' telephone exchange - a direct link to pre-war London.

The chair features a striking, textured \'pebbled\' pattern on both the seat and backrest. This finish was designed to mimic the executive look of heavy grain leather and can also be described as being akin to \'crocodile skin\' while providing the durability required for a busy 1930s-60s office environment.

The frame features a smooth, close-grained hardwood with a warm mid-brown tone, consistent with steam-bent construction methods used in folding chairs of this era. The dark staining and wear patterns are consistent with mid-century commercial furniture.

As with any piece that has lived a full life, this chair tells its story through its wear.

When folded, the left-hand fixing shows a slight bend compared to the right (as seen in the rear-view photos). This is a purely cosmetic alignment issue from decades of use; the chair remains sturdy, folds as it should, and is perfectly functional when open.

There is a very slight lifting of the material at the front edge of the seat. Rather than a detraction, we see this as a \'hint to its story\' - a testament to the decades of sitters this chair has supported in the London legal district.

The wood has a deep, authentic dark-aged finish with minor scuffs consistent with its age.

This is a beautiful, \'honest\' piece of industrial history that would suit a home office, a hallway, or a collector of London memorabilia.
