Set on a simple 9ct white gold chain, this emerald-cut ametrine weighs an impressive 28 carats! This ametrine is likely from the mines in Bolivia and has a wonderful bi-colour of orangey-yellow with purple. Other names often used for ametrine include “trystine” and “golden amethyst.” Ametrine is a crystalline quartz consists 50/50 of amethyst and citrine. Amethysts and citrines are the same gemstone, but different temperatures and pressures in the earth cause different colours. Any Amethyst can be heated to turn into a citrine, and turned back into an amethyst via irradiation - however, ametrines are much harder to find naturally. The emerald cut design for these stones was first popularised in the 1970s and you can see why. It is a great effect. A wonderful statement piece.
