This hand-crafted silver Ukonvasara Pendant is the Finnish variant of the well-known Thor\'s Hammer (Mjolnir). Its name is derived from the sky, thunder, lighting, and fire god, Ukko, and the design is believed to symbolize a fire starter.
Not cast, but forged using hammer and anvil, this silver pendant displays the hammer marks for its finish. Imperfectly hand-stamped, its traditional look makes it timeless, creating a sense of antiquity.

The Story
The \"Ukonvasara\" is known widely as the Finnish Thor\'s Hammer. Ukko \"Old man\" was the name commonly used for the sky god, who governed over the weather, thunder, the crops & fertility and judgement. He was known as the \"high god\". Wether this is because of his physical placement in the sky or his superiority to the rest of the Finnish Pantheon, is unclear. His help was asked when heavenly intervention or a sign was needed, on the battle field, in a trial by combat, hunting, giving birth or growing the crops.
The shape Ukko\'s hammer is different from its Scandinavian and Germanic counterparts. It is my supposition that the shape does not reflect a hammer like the Mjolnir, but a fire striker of a type less represented in the archaeological record. The Finnish origin myth of fire describes Ukko striking his hammer to create a spark that then flew down onto earth.
