Viana beads are traditional pieces of jewelry from the Minho region in northern Portugal and symbolize good luck in love. The first bead was traditionally offered by a godmother to her goddaughter at birth. It was threaded onto a cotton bracelet or necklace, often finished with a colorful tassel.
