He was part of a younggroup of makers which would forever change theface of jewelry design. Kauppi\'s drive to innovateoriginated from the difficult circumstances of the war and a desire to break outof theusual standards of jewelry design of that time.The War and the Innovation of the Kupittaan Kulta WorkshopFinnish jewelry ingenuity was greatly tested during thesecond world war and it was reported that even whenglass beads and stones were hard to obtain during the warthat the Kupittan Kulta workshop melted down colored pinheads to provide jewelry accents and Finish granite was upgradedto a precious stone.
